Editorial

The Riptide Slow Sink 155 is Nomad Design's sub-surface answer to the topwater stickbait — a 155mm body, 52 grams, fitted with a BKK Diablo 5X 4/0 inline single at the tail and a BKK 3/0 double on the belly.

It is designed and tested in Australia by the Nomad Sportfishing Team out of Queensland. The body is HD-ABS over a Matrix Metal Plate stainless plate, with an HD Foam buoyancy system and a Gorilla Through Wire welded at both ends. Three coats of clear resin — the brand's Triple Shield finish — sit over the printed body.

The Squid Surprise colour is a pearlescent off-shore pattern that earns its place on overcast water and around squid-feeding pelagics. SKU: RIP155-SS-SQD.

Why It Matters

A sinking stickbait that suspends on pause is the most useful sub-surface tool in a pelagic kit. The Riptide Slow Sink reaches the depth where finicky fish hold, then sits flat in the water on the stop — a moment that triggers commitment more often than continuous action. Slow sink, near-180-degree walk-the-dog turn per twitch, BKK terminals at both points, and an Australian-designed construction system that has carried this lure into the standard kit of GT and pelagic casters across the Pacific and Indian Ocean.

Best For

  • Giant trevally over coral edges
  • Yellowtail kingfish and yellowfin tuna over schooling bait
  • Spanish mackerel and mahi-mahi
  • Reef-edge snapper casting
  • US: striped bass

Collector / Field Notes

The Slow Sink ("SS") and Fast Sink ("FS") share a body shape but produce different fishing tools. The Slow Sink sits level and suspends; the Fast Sink drops faster and works in cleaner walks. The 155 Slow Sink appears to be an Australian-market SKU — the US Nomad store stocks the Fast Sink 155 only at the time of this writing. Precise sink rate (seconds per metre) is not published by Nomad Design; "slow sink" is a category descriptor. Squid Surprise is an active production colour, not a limited run.
